You are encouraged to use the resources available on the internet. It is important use reputable sites. Here are several which we recommend:

General Neurology Guidelines

The field of neurology includes all diseases of the nervous system.

General Medical Literature Search

https://www.nih.gov/ This is the website for our nation’s medical research agency.  You can explore the latest information and ongoing research of neurological and medical diseases.  You may qualify to enter a research study if this interests you.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/ If you are interested in in-depth research this is a great place to start.  Spend some time learning how to use this comprehensive tool at:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK3827/#pubmedhelp.PubMed_Quick_Start

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system which includes the brain and spinal cord.  The disease causes inflammation of nerves and myelin.  The symptoms of multiple sclerosis can vary including numbness, weakness, imbalance and visual disturbance.  The disease is diagnosed by history, physical exam and MRI of the central nervous system.  We sometimes need electrical tests and spinal fluid analysis.

Multiple sclerosis is a treatable condition; treatment includes disease modifying therapies, medication for symptom management and exercise/physical therapy.  Our practice supports a holistic and team approach to patient care. If patients are interested in alternative therapies for their disease or to supplement their treatment, we are open to discussion.

There is symptomatic treatment available as well.

EMG and Nerve Conduction Testing

EMG and nerve conduction studies are very useful tests in the diagnosis and management of neuromuscular conditions.  These include peripheral neuropathy, autonomic conditions and myopathy (muscle disease).  https://www.aanem.org/Patients Here you will find out what to expect during your EMG and nerve conduction study test along with other test information.

Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease which causes tremor, stiffness and weakness. Symptomatic treatment is effective and the disease is managed together with the patient and family.  Medications and routine visits are involved in managing this condition.
